Family Build: Picnic Table

Kids and parents teamed up and worked with drills, clamps, jigsaws, and orbital sanders to build picnic tables. This 1-day workshop offered tool safety demos and practical knowledge for adults about kid friendly power tools.

The day started with drill training inside the shop. Duos worked with drills to practice screwing 2x4’s together.

The first step to build a picnic table was to assemble the legs.

Once both legs were built the teams attached a table top piece to connect both sets.

The next step was using the chop saw to cut 2x4’s for the seat pieces. The teams used jigsaws to round the corners of the tables and orbital sanders to smoothen the edges.
